Preheat the oven to 300F. Peel the apples and cut them into large dices. Place a layer of apple dice in the bottom of a rectangular terrine. Sprinkle with 1/3 cup of the raisins, the sugar and butter. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used up. Pour in the juice or cider. Bake for 2 hours. Serve warm.
